Preservation Hall - "That's It"
Preservation Hall. - WSL / shannon brinkman
Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from the Preservation Hall venue located in New Orleans' French Quarter and the band is known for performing traditional New Orleans-style jazz. The musicians in the group have varied during the years since the founding of the Hall in the early 1960s. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band performs at Preservation Hall on 726 St. Peter Street in the French Quarter and tours around the world for more than 150 days a year.
Preservation Hall's doors were closed through the fall and winter of 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina. Although the building remained shut until spring of 2006, the band continued to tour while the Hall was closed.
Hammerwax - "Move Like This"
Hammerwax - WSL
Hammerwax has been called a "sonic time machine†because of the group's ability to slide effortlessly between musical eras. The Berkeley based group mixes 60's R&B , old school hip hop, boogie woogie blues, and modern turntablism to create a sound that spans the ages. Keyboardist Max Cowan specializes in classic R&B piano and organ sounds, and producer/guitarist KC Booker adds retro blues guitar licks mixed in with infectious dance grooves. Featuring some of the best emcees and gospel vocalists from the Bay Area, Hammerwax has crafted a musical cocktail that is vintage and modern at the same time.
